Bayern Munich go to Mainz on Saturday 7 November at 15:30 CET for the last Bundesliga game before the international break, level on 18 points with Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table and still without their head coach. Vincent Kompany collapsed at a reserve-team training session on 23 October, was treated in hospital for what the club called an irritation of the membranes around the brain, and has been recovering at home since 28 October with no date for his return, according to the Bundesliga's own website. Assistant coach Aaron Danks has run the team since, and he ran Friday's press talk with sporting director Christoph Freund.

Mainz are 10th in the table as this site's licensed fixture feed has it, on 10 points from eight games, and have lost three games in a row.

## Why it matters

Bayern and Dortmund both have 18 points from eight games; Bayern are first on goal difference, 27 scored and eight conceded against Dortmund's plus eight. Dortmund play Elversberg at home at the same time on Saturday, without their striker Serhou Guirassy, who has a thigh strain, according to Niko Kovač on the Bundesliga website. Whoever wins goes into the two-week break on top; if both win, the gap stays at goal difference.

Bayern have not lost a Bundesliga away game in 30 matches, according to the club's own facts page, and they are the only side in Europe's five big leagues unbeaten in all competitions this season, according to the same page. The last away league defeat was at Mainz, 2-1, in December 2024, with both goals from Jae-Sung Lee, who is still there.

For Mainz the game comes at a low point. They lost 2-3 at home to Werder Bremen, went out of the DFB-Pokal, the German cup, 0-2 at Bochum, and lost 4-1 at Elversberg on 30 October, the club's own match report calling it a "bitter thrashing". Two league defeats in a row is the first such run under their coach Urs Fischer, the Bayern preview notes. Mainz have taken one point from four home games this season, the joint-fewest in the league with Gladbach, and have conceded 17 goals in their last six league games, the most in the division, according to Bayern's facts page.

## Team news

Bayern: Jamal Musiala is back in team training but is not in the squad for Mainz, the club's preview says. Serge Gnabry, Luis Díaz, Ismael Saibari and Bara Ndiaye are still out. The Bundesliga's expected line-ups piece on Thursday gives the reasons: a muscle injury for Gnabry, a torn ankle ligament for Saibari, an appendix operation for Ndiaye, and missed training for Díaz and Musiala. Danks said in the preview: "It is an important game and we want to finish this run with a good result." He added: "We respect them, it is a difficult place to play." The team that won 2-0 at Atlético Madrid on Tuesday was Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Kim, Stanišić; Kimmich, Pavlović; Olise, Karl, Davies; Kane, with Davies coming off for Kim after 79 minutes, according to the club's match report. If Manuel Neuer plays he becomes Bayern's oldest Bundesliga player, at 40 years and 225 days, passing Bernd Dreher, the facts page says.

Mainz: Phillipp Mwene is suspended after five yellow cards and Stefan Posch after a red; Dominik Kohr has an ankle ligament injury, according to the Bundesliga's expected line-ups piece. Captain Silvan Widmer told the club's website on Thursday that the team needs "a 10 out of 10 performance to beat Bayern" and wants to go out "with total conviction, with our chests out". Widmer, 33, who recently retired from the Switzerland team after 65 caps, may deputise for Mwene. Fischer said, in Bayern's preview: "We must make as few individual mistakes as possible." No Mainz press-conference report was found on the club's site by 07:10 CET on Saturday; the official teams are due at about 14:15 CET.

## Kane, signed to 2029

Harry Kane signed a new contract to 30 June 2029 on Thursday 5 November, the club confirmed, saying "I feel right at home at FC Bayern". The club's numbers page counts 156 goals in 161 competitive games since he joined in August 2023, 40 assists, the Bundesliga's top scorer in every season he has played, and four league goals with six assists this season. Against Mainz he has six goals in five league meetings. One record he did not get on Tuesday: a goal at Atlético would have equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's run of 11 Champions League games in a row with a goal, but Kane set up both goals instead of scoring, so Ronaldo keeps the record, the club's page says.

## The recent record

The last meeting at this ground was the strangest game of last season. On 25 April 2026 Mainz led 3-0 at half-time through Kohr, Nebel and Becker, and lost 3-4: Nicolas Jackson, Michael Olise, Musiala and Kane scored between the 53rd and 83rd minutes, according to Bayern's reaction piece, and the facts page says it was only the third time in Bundesliga history that Bayern had turned a three-goal deficit into a win. Over 40 league meetings Bayern have 28 wins to Mainz's eight with four draws, but Mainz have won four of the last six at home.

## How to read the market

BettingBeast's feed, which this site reads at least once an hour, first carried the game at 11:29 CET on Saturday 31 October with Bayern at 1.43 to win, Mainz at 6.25 and the draw at 6.81. Bayern were 1.41 by the evening of Tuesday 3 November, 1.37 at 03:23 CET on Wednesday, the night of the win in Madrid, 1.35 through Thursday and Friday, and 1.33 at the 06:23 CET capture on Saturday, the price on the card above, with Mainz at 9.06 and the draw at 7.12. Turning the prices into chances, called the implied probability, by dividing one by the price: Bayern have gone from about a 70% chance to about a 75%, a rise of five percentage points, which is above the three-point mark this site treats as a real move. Mainz's chance by the price has fallen from about 16% to about 11%. The handicap, the goal start given to the weaker side to even the contest, has switched between Mainz getting one and a half goals and two goals all week; the feed picks whichever line has prices closest to even money, so the switching is how the feed works, not a change of mind. The goals line has moved between 3.5 and 4.5 the same way; at the Saturday capture it was 4.5 goals, with over at 2.63 and under at 1.59.

## What to watch

Whether Bayern's left side is the way in: Davies started in Madrid and came off late, and Danks has not said who plays there. Whether Mainz can keep a clean first half; they have conceded 17 in six league games and still led this fixture 3-0 at the break last April. And Kane against a defence missing Kohr, Mwene and Posch. A lean: a Bayern win with goals at both ends looks more likely than a shut-out, given Mainz's home record against Bayern and the two sides' recent scorelines, though a Mainz side that has lost three in a row may sit deeper than usual. The card on this page carries the latest price.
