Real Madrid go to Valencia on Saturday 7 November at 21:00 CET, the last La Liga game before the international break, on a run of seven wins in a row in all competitions. Madrid are third in the table on 27 points from eleven games, three behind Barcelona and one behind Atlético Madrid, who play each other on Sunday night. Valencia are 19th, in the relegation zone, on nine points, after two wins, three draws and six defeats, and won last week for the first time under their new coach, Javier Aguirre.

## Why it matters

For Madrid it is about staying in touch before the break. Barcelona and Atlético meet on Sunday at 21:00 CET, so one of the two sides above Madrid drops points for certain, and a draw between them would leave Madrid two points behind Atlético and one behind Barcelona if they win at Mestalla. Lose, and the gap to the top could be six points by Sunday night, with no league football until 21 November.

Madrid's own website counted the 3-0 win at Racing Santander on Sunday 1 November as a sixth win in a row for José Mourinho's side, when Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty, Jude Bellingham his 50th goal for the club and Yan Diomande the third. The seventh came on Wednesday in Athens, where Madrid beat AEK 3-2 in the Champions League: Bellingham, Mbappé and a stoppage-time winner from Federico Valverde, according to ESPN's report, after AEK had led through Koita and levelled through Pilios. Madrid have four wins from four in Europe.

For Valencia it is about survival. Nine points from eleven games has them 19th, one behind Elche and Levante and four above Málaga at the bottom; the bottom three go down. Aguirre, the Mexican coach who took the job this autumn, got his first win on 1 November, 1-0 at Elche, with a goal from Umar Sadiq in the 69th minute, eight minutes after Sadiq had come on for his first appearance since an injury, according to LaLiga's match page. Aguirre said afterwards, in the club's write-up: "It's a very important win for us, because we'd come off three matches without a victory." On Saturday's game he said: "You don't need extra motivation for that game."

## The week around it

La Liga's twelfth round runs from Friday to Sunday. Sevilla host Alavés on Friday at 21:00 CET. On Saturday, Málaga play Racing at 14:00 CET, Espanyol host Deportivo at 16:15 CET, Osasuna play Athletic at 18:30 CET and then Valencia v Real Madrid at 21:00 CET. Sunday has Elche v Betis at 14:00 CET, Real Sociedad v Rayo at 16:15 CET, Celta v Levante and Villarreal v Getafe at 18:30 CET, and Atlético v Barcelona at 21:00 CET, which has its own preview on this site. After the break, Madrid's next league game is at home to Celta on the weekend of 21 November.

## Team news

Mourinho's press conference before this game was due at 10:30 CET on Friday, after this piece was written, so the club's latest word is from Wednesday night and Thursday. After the AEK game Mourinho said, in the club's own account of the press conference, that he would make "four or five" changes for Saturday, and named the players coming in: "Dean (Huijsen), Konaté, Tchouameni y Arda", meaning Dean Huijsen, Ibrahima Konaté, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Arda Güler. Güler missed the AEK game; before it Mourinho had said: "He's out tomorrow. Ask about him on Saturday." The club's training report on Thursday 5 November said Tchouaméni did individual work, and that Raúl Asencio and Rodrygo are "continuing their respective recovery processes", with no return date for either. So, as of Friday morning: Rodrygo and Asencio out; Tchouaméni and Güler expected back by the manager's own word, not yet confirmed; no suspensions found on any allowed source.

Madrid's team in Athens was Courtois; Dumfries, Militão, Rüdiger, Cucurella; Camavinga, Bernardo; Bellingham, Diomande, Vinícius; Mbappé, according to the club. Mourinho did not say who drops out for the four coming in.

For Valencia, no injury list was published on the club's website by Friday morning, and Aguirre's press conference had not been reported, so the only confirmed fact is that Sadiq is fit again. No confirmed team news beyond that as of 07:30 CET on Friday; the official teams are due at about 20:00 CET on Saturday.

## The recent record

Madrid have won the last two meetings without conceding. They beat Valencia 4-0 at the Bernabéu on 1 November last year, two from Mbappé, one a penalty, and one each from Bellingham and Álvaro Carreras, according to Valencia's own match report. At Mestalla on 8 February this year it was 0-2, Carreras after 65 minutes and Mbappé in stoppage time, according to LaLiga's match page. Before that, Valencia won 2-1 at the Bernabéu in the 2024/25 season, which the club described as its first win there in 18 years.

## How to read the market

The market has moved, and all of it one way. BettingBeast's feed, which this site reads at least once an hour, first carried the game at 21:38 CET on Saturday 31 October with Madrid at 1.38 to win, Valencia at 7.30 and the draw at 6.10. Madrid were 1.32 by 22:23 CET on Sunday, after the win at Racing; 1.33 through Tuesday and Wednesday; and 1.30 by 12:22 CET on Thursday, the morning after Athens. At 07:22 CET on Friday, the capture on the card above, Madrid were 1.30, Valencia 11.30 and the draw 7.12. Turning the prices into chances, called the implied probability, by dividing one by the price: Madrid have gone from about a 73% chance to about a 77%, a rise of four percentage points, which is above the three-point mark this site treats as a real move. Valencia's chance has fallen from about 14% to about 9%. The handicap, the goal start given to one side to even the contest, has switched between Madrid giving one and a half goals and two goals all week; the feed picks whichever line has prices closest to even money, so the switching is how the feed works, not a change of mind. The goals line is 3.5 goals, with over at 2.22 and under at 1.79 at the Friday capture.

## What to watch

Whether Madrid's changes cost them rhythm: Mourinho has said four or five of the Athens team sit out, and the side that beat Racing and AEK had Bellingham, Mbappé and Vinícius starting both. Whether Sadiq starts for Valencia, having come on at Elche and scored within eight minutes. And the first goal: Valencia have scored eight goals in eleven league games, according to LaLiga's table, so a Madrid lead would ask them to do something they have rarely done. A lean: a Madrid win by two or more looks more likely than a close game, given the last two meetings finished 4-0 and 2-0 and Valencia's goal record, though a side with four or five changes may take time to settle. The card on this page carries the latest price.
