Barcelona answered two defeats in a row with six goals. They beat Alavés 6-1 at home on Saturday night in the eleventh round of La Liga, the Spanish top division, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal scoring twice each. Earlier in the day Atlético Madrid won 2-0 at Levante. Barcelona lead the table with 30 points from 11 games, Atlético are second on 28, and Real Madrid, third on 24 from ten games, play at Racing Santander on Sunday at 16:15 CET.

## Six for Barcelona

Hansi Flick's side had lost their previous two matches, 2-1 at home to Real Madrid in the league last Sunday, their first dropped points of the season, and 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League five days before that. Our preview on Saturday morning asked for a response, and it came inside eight minutes.

Raphinha scored in the eighth minute and again in the 41st. Fermín López made it 2-0 in the 23rd with a finish from a tight angle after driving through the Alavés defence, according to ESPN's report. Yamal scored in first-half stoppage time and again in the 64th minute; his second was first flagged offside, then given after a review. Anthony Gordon came off the bench to score his first league goal for the club in the 81st minute, from a move set up by Gabriel Jesus, who had come on around the hour. Mariano Díaz scored Alavés' goal in the 84th minute, running clear and beating Joan García.

Barcelona were without Jules Koundé, Eric García, Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, Roony Bardghji and Xavi Espart, ESPN noted, without saying why in each case. Our preview had listed four defenders out. The absences did not show: Barcelona have now scored 34 league goals more than they have conceded this season, a goal difference of +34 after Saturday, the best in the division by a distance.

## Atlético keep pace

Atlético's win at Levante was less spectacular and just as useful. Alejandro Grimaldo scored in the 36th minute and Giuliano Simeone in the 62nd, according to ESPN's match page. Levante had more shots, 20 to 11, but only four of them on target, and Atlético's record this season is now nine wins, a draw and a defeat from 11 games. They go into Tuesday's Champions League match at home to Bayern Munich, at 21:00 CET, two points behind Barcelona.

## What Sunday means for Real Madrid

Real Madrid are the only one of the three who have not played this weekend. José Mourinho's side have 24 points from ten games and go to Racing Santander, a promoted club, at 16:15 CET on Sunday. A win would take them to 27, one behind Atlético and three behind Barcelona, with a game in hand on both. Anything less widens the gap before next weekend, when Real Madrid play at Valencia on Saturday 7 November at 21:00 CET and Atlético host Barcelona on Sunday 8 November at 21:00 CET.

Our Saturday preview of the Racing game, with Real Madrid's recent run and the team news that was available, is linked below.

## What happens next

Barcelona host Aston Villa in the Champions League on Tuesday 3 November at 21:00 CET. Real Madrid are at AEK Athens on Wednesday 4 November at 18:45 CET. The next league round is 7 and 8 November, the last before the international break, and it ends with Atlético against Barcelona in Madrid.

Kick-off times come from the fixture feed used across this site and can still change.

Correction, 1 November 10:00 CET: an earlier version said Barcelona had scored 29 league goals more than they had conceded while also giving their goal difference as +34. The goal difference is +34, so the first figure was wrong and has been changed to 34.
