Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 at El Sardinero on Sunday 1 November, with all three goals scored before half-time, to stay three points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty in the 11th minute, Jude Bellingham added the second in the 21st and Yan Diomande the third in the 36th, according to ESPN’s match page. It was José Mourinho’s side’s sixth win in a row in all competitions after a perfect October.

Bellingham’s milestone

Bellingham’s goal was his 50th for Real Madrid, and ESPN reports that it makes him the first Englishman to reach that number for the club. He was already the highest-scoring English player in Madrid’s history; David Beckham and Laurie Cunningham are joint second on 20. The goal also ended what ESPN calls a seven-match scoring drought for the midfielder.

Diomande’s goal, from outside the penalty area, was his third of the season, to go with two assists. ESPN notes that he failed to score in his first eight games of the season in August and September, and has four goals and three assists in six games in all competitions since. Trent Alexander-Arnold started for the first time since the 3-2 win at Elche on 15 September, according to the same report. Mbappé, who reached 100 goals for the club in the win at Barcelona a week earlier by the club’s own count, scored from the spot.

The table

The result keeps Spain’s title race in a three-point band at the top. After eleven rounds Barcelona lead with 30 points from ten wins and one defeat, having beaten Alavés 6-1 on Saturday. Atlético Madrid, who won 2-0 at Levante on Saturday, have 28, with nine wins, a draw and a defeat. Real Madrid have 27 from nine wins and two defeats. Real Betis are fourth on 23, five points behind Madrid; Real Sociedad are fifth on 19.

The next two rounds decide a good deal. Real Madrid go to Valencia on Saturday 7 November at 21:00 CET, and the following evening, Sunday 8 November at 21:00 CET, Atlético host Barcelona. Before that, Madrid play AEK Athens in the Champions League on Wednesday 4 November at 18:45 CET.

Athletic win the Basque derby

Athletic Club beat Real Sociedad 2-1 in Bilbao on Sunday night in the Basque derby, the name for the meeting of the two biggest clubs from Spain’s Basque Country. The win lifts Athletic to seventh on 15 points from ten games, one game fewer than most of the division, while Real Sociedad stay fifth on 19 but lose ground on Betis above them.

The rest of Sunday

Getafe beat Sevilla 3-1 at home, a result that leaves Sevilla sixth on 17 and moves Getafe to twelfth on 12. Valencia won 1-0 at Elche, their second league win of the season, and are 19th on nine points, one behind Elche and Levante, who share 10 points in 17th and 18th. Málaga, who lost 2-1 at Betis on Saturday, are bottom with five points and still without a win after eleven games. The bottom three are therefore Levante, Valencia and Málaga, with Elche a point above the line.

What happens next

La Liga’s twelfth round runs from Friday 6 November, when Sevilla host Alavés at 21:00 CET, through to the Atlético v Barcelona game on Sunday night. It is the last round before the November international break, after which the league returns on the weekend of 21 and 22 November. Kick-off times come from the fixture feed used across this site and can still change.
