Davies and David on opposite sides in Madrid, Buchanan against PSG: three Canadians in Tuesday's Champions League
Atlético v Bayern and Villarreal v PSG both kick off at 3 p.m. ET (21:00 CET) on Tuesday. Davies is in UEFA's predicted Bayern team; David is not in Atlético's. Canada play Guatemala on 13 and 16 November.
Two of Canada’s best-known players are on opposite sides of the biggest Champions League game of the night on Tuesday 3 November, and a third plays the French champions at the same hour. Alphonso Davies is in UEFA’s predicted Bayern Munich team to face Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano at 3 p.m. ET (21:00 CET). Jonathan David, who joined Atlético on loan from Juventus in September, is not in UEFA’s predicted Atlético side, so his evening may start on the bench. Tajon Buchanan is in UEFA’s predicted Villarreal team against Paris Saint-Germain, also at 3 p.m. ET (21:00 CET).
Davies against David
The predicted line-ups come from UEFA’s team-news page, published on Monday, and they are predictions, not confirmed teams; the clubs name their sides 75 minutes before kick-off, at 1:45 p.m. ET (19:45 CET). UEFA’s Bayern eleven has Davies on the left of a front line behind Harry Kane, with Karl and Brown, in a team missing four attacking players: Jamal Musiala, Luis Díaz, Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari are all out injured, according to Bayern’s website, and head coach Vincent Kompany is off sick, with assistant Aaron Danks in charge. That shortage is part of why a left-back by trade is pencilled in further forward.
UEFA’s Atlético eleven pairs Julián Álvarez with Lee Kang-in in attack and leaves David out. David moved to Madrid on 1 September on a loan for the 2026-27 season, Juventus announced, after 46 appearances and eight goals in his one season in Turin. Atlético have not published team news of their own; UEFA lists Johnny Cardoso and the suspended Morten Hjulmand as out and Koke as doubtful.
Bayern are 14th of 36 in the league-phase table with five points, Atlético 16th with four. The format is one table of 36 clubs; the top eight go straight to the last 16, places nine to 24 go to a play-off round in February, and the bottom 12 are out. Buchanan against PSG
Villarreal are 19th with three points from three games and host PSG, who lead the table with three wins and are missing Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos and Nuno Mendes, per UEFA. UEFA’s predicted Villarreal side has Buchanan on the right of the attack with Moleiro and Mikautadze. Villarreal are without Akhomach, Foyth and Moreno, all with muscle injuries.
Canada’s November
The club week matters more than usual because Canada’s national team plays its first competitive games since the World Cup ten days later. Canada Soccer confirmed on Monday that the men’s team meet Guatemala in the Concacaf Nations League quarter-final over two legs: in Guatemala City on Friday 13 November at 9 p.m. ET (03:00 CET on Saturday) and at BMO Field in Toronto on Monday 16 November at 8 p.m. ET (02:00 CET on Tuesday). The tie is decided on aggregate, and the winner goes to the Nations League finals in Los Angeles in March 2027 and qualifies for the 2027 Gold Cup. Both games are on TSN, RDS and OneSoccer. Kevin Blue, Canada Soccer’s chief executive, said in the release: “This window is a significant moment for both of our National Teams.”
Canada Soccer has not yet announced the roster for the Guatemala games; we found no squad release on its newsroom on Tuesday morning. The women’s team’s Concacaf W Championship, which doubles as qualifying for the 2027 World Cup, begins with a quarter-final against Panama in Mansfield, Texas, on Saturday 28 November at 1 p.m. ET (19:00 CET), per the same release.
Kick-off times for the club games are converted from the UTC times in the fixture feed used on this site. Eastern Time is five hours behind UTC from 1 November, so a 21:00 CET kick-off is 3 p.m. ET.
