Tanzania’s squad were due to arrive in Uyo on Sunday 8 November, five days before they play Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in the AFCON 2027 qualifier on Friday 13 November, according to Soccernet, and as of Sunday morning the Super Eagles’ own squad for the two games had still not appeared on any source this site is able to read. Three Nigerians are involved in Sunday’s biggest European games: Ademola Lookman with Atlético Madrid against Barcelona at 21:00 WAT (21:00 CET), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru with Lazio at Napoli at 12:30 WAT (12:30 CET), and Nathan Tella with Bayer Leverkusen at Köln at 15:30 WAT (15:30 CET).

The squad that has not come

Soccernet’s report, published on Wednesday, says Tanzania’s coach Miguel Gamondi “has named 24 players, 12 based at home and 12 abroad”, and that the visitors chose to arrive early “while many of Eric Chelle’s Europe-based players will join only after their weekend club games.” The same report puts Nigeria on three points from two Group L games, behind Guinea-Bissau on six. The return game is in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday 17 November.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s website could not be read by this site on Sunday morning, as on every morning this week, and no Nigerian outlet this site is allowed to use had published a squad list by 07:30 WAT. So “unpublished” here means “not found on any page this site could read”, not a statement about what the NFF has or has not done. Victor Osimhen is out of both games after knee surgery, as this site reported on Saturday. The kick-off time in Uyo was not on any allowed source either.

Sunday’s Nigerians

Lookman’s Atlético host Barcelona at the Metropolitano at 21:00 WAT (21:00 CET), third against first in La Liga, with Real Madrid level with Barcelona on 30 points after winning 3-0 at Valencia on Saturday; an Atlético win would put them top. Atlético’s squad list could not be read by this site, so whether Lookman, who came on in the 59th minute against Bayern on Tuesday and has made his last appearances from the bench, is in it is not confirmed here. Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick said on Saturday that Eric García and Andreas Christensen “will be with the team”, with Rodri the only confirmed absentee, according to the club’s website. This site’s Markets desk has written separately about how Barcelona’s price for the game moved overnight.

Dele-Bashiru’s Lazio go to Napoli at 12:30 WAT (12:30 CET) as leaders of Serie A, unbeaten after ten games with 28 points, one ahead of Roma, who played on Saturday. Dele-Bashiru came on after 55 minutes in Lazio’s 2-1 win over Cagliari last Sunday, as this site reported. Napoli are tenth and have lost their last two games, 2-0 at Juventus and 4-1 at Porto. Lazio’s squad for Sunday was not on a source this site could read.

Tella’s Leverkusen play at Köln at 15:30 WAT (15:30 CET). Tella extended his contract with Leverkusen to 2031 earlier this year and made his 100th appearance for the club in April, in a 2-1 win in the same fixture in Köln, according to the club’s own review of that game. Leverkusen are sixth in the Bundesliga on 13 points from eight games and lost 0-1 at home to Marseille in the Europa League on Thursday; Köln are 15th on nine. Neither club’s squad list was on a source this site could read.

Samuel Chukwueze is not expected to play for Milan at Genoa at 15:00 WAT (15:00 CET). Milan published an official statement on Wednesday 4 November headed as an update on his condition after surgery; the club’s page gave no return date that this site could read.

On Saturday, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi’s Fulham drew 1-1 with Newcastle at Craven Cottage; the line-ups were not on a source this site could read, so whether either played is not stated here. Taiwo Awoniyi’s Coventry City, for whom he scored in the 3-1 win over Sunderland on 31 October according to ESPN, lost 3-1 at Everton on Friday night.

The Flamingos

Nigeria’s under-17 women, the Flamingos, played Japan in the final of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco on Saturday 7 November, according to Legit.ng, after beating Brazil 3-1 in the semi-final with goals from Queen Joseph in the 55th minute and Awuwu Bashiru in the 71st and 80th, as CAF reported. The result of the final was not on any source this site could read by 07:30 WAT on Sunday, so it is not given here.
