How we quote prices

Every price on this site comes from one place, carries the time it was read, and links to the live page. Here is what the numbers mean.

One source

All odds on this site come from BettingBeast's live feed. BettingBeast is a betting broker: one account that places bets into 16+ bookmakers and exchanges. The price you see is the price available on that platform at the time stamped next to it. We do not quote other bookmakers, we do not compare prices across companies, and we never call a price the "best". Odds links go to BettingBeast.

Decimal odds

We use decimal odds, the format most of the world uses. A price of 2.50 means a winning 10 stake returns 25 in total (your 10 back plus 15 profit). A price below 2.00 means the outcome is seen as more likely than not.

Implied chance

Next to each price we show the chance it implies: 1 divided by the price. A price of 2.50 implies 40%. Add the three implied chances of a match together and you normally get a little more than 100%; the extra is the bookmaker's margin, the built-in fee. That is why we say "before the margin". Because BettingBeast's price for each outcome can come from a different bookmaker, the three can occasionally add up to slightly less than 100%. When that happens we say so in the article, and it is a reason to check the live page before reading anything into a price.

Timestamps

Prices move all week: with team news, with money, with the weather. Every price we print says when it was read, in CET. A price from Friday morning may be very different by Sunday evening. The live page is always the truth; our number is a snapshot.

How we track moves

We read BettingBeast's feed at least once an hour, and every 30 minutes when the schedule allows, and keep every pre-match price with the time we read it. That record is what draws the odds-move charts in match articles, the "How the market moved" block on the front page, and the Markets desk's articles. A "move" on this site means the chance a price implies changed by a stated amount between two stated times. We say what moved and when; we only say why when a named source gives a reason.

Closing lines

The closing line is the last price we captured before kick-off. Once a match has started we stop recording it, so in-play prices never get mixed in. On Mondays the Markets desk sets the weekend's closing lines against the results. That tells you where the market was surest and where it was wrong; it does not tell you what will happen next week.

Editions without odds

The German edition shows no prices and no odds links, because BettingBeast does not serve Germany or Austria. The articles are the same; the betting layer is simply left out.

Not advice

When we write "a draw looks more likely than the price suggests", that is an opinion, written to be understood, not a recommendation. 18+. Gambling involves risk and can be addictive. Please gamble responsibly.
